Dog First Aid Course 9th November 16169 Guernsey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA) Tomorrow the GSPCA will be holding the second dog first aid course of 2022. GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne who has over 25 years working in the field of animal rescue will be running the course and with over 3000 animals through the doors every year at the GSPCA the team see cases of animal first aid on a daily basis here in Guernsey. Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “In May we held our first Dog First Aid Course of 2022 and we had a full house of 19.” “From Police Officers, to GSPCA team members, members of the public to an assistance dog we had a lovely room of those wanting to learn how to save dogs lives.” “We have set extra dates for this month for another dog and cat course and the next Dog First Aid Course is planned for tomorrow the 9th November.” “Those attending learnt to save dogs and other animals lives and although we hope those attending never have to use the skills but at least they will now have the knowledge of what to do in many circumstances.” “We have been running dog and cat first aid courses for over seven years and have trained over 350 participants to help save animals lives.” "We have ‘Casper’ who is our model first aid dog a bit like the Annie doll many may know for humans and he is a great way to show and learn how to carry out CPR on an unconscious dog although with covid precautions will be used as a model more than for practical." “From dealing with a dog chocking to heat stroke we cover a huge range of topics and life saving techniques that could really help save a dogs life.” “We always hope that the skills learned will not be needed but we have been told of circumstances of these skills helping in real life situations.” "As owners of pets our worst fear is not knowing what to do if our four legged friend has an injury and this training helps pet owners learn and understand ways to help save your pets life." “It is £25 per person and you can book online or call 257261.” “A huge thank you to all that supported our last course and we look forward seeing those keen to learn tomorrow.” The dates for the first aid courses are: Dog First Aid 6.30pm - 8.45pm Wednesday 9th November 2022 - Ref - Dog 9/11 Cat First Aid 6.30pm - 8.45pm Wednesday 30th November 2022 - Ref - Cat 30/11 More dates will be announced for 2023. All first aid courses are a minimum £25 donation and you must book your place by 5pm before the course. Within the sessions you get the chance to learn about what to do if you were faced with an emergency situation with your dog or cat.
