Local charities are currently exempt from having to purchase a licence in order to play (or broadcast) music. However, the States of Guernsey is running a consultation regarding the proposal to repeal these "special provisions", which would mean that clubs, societies, and charities wishing to play music would need to purchase a licence. Anyone who may be affected is encouraged to take part in the consultation by completing an online survey before 30 September 2011.

The next General Meeting of the Association of Guernsey Charities will be on Thursday 16 October 2008, and will include a talk given by Richard Green, Assistant Administrator, Income Tax. This will concern all local charities as it is about the imminent introduction of official registration for charities and NPO's.
The Association would strongly encourage all members to attend the meeting, as it will be an ideal opportunity to learn about the criteria for registration, and the procedures which will need to be followed.
