Volunteers' Week - Bring
a Buddy Volunteers' Week starts on the 1st June and the Association of Guernsey Charities will be playing a key role in plenty of promotion and publicity of the great work done by volunteers in the island. More details will be announced on this site, and on our Facebook page. Local charities are being encouraged to ask their volunteers to “take along a buddy”. The Association of Guernsey Charities has launched the initiative ahead of this years Volunteers’ Week, which starts on 1 June. The scheme aims to increase the number of people who do some sort of voluntary work, by getting people who already work for a charity to take along a friend. Malcolm Woodhams, Association of Guernsey Charities, said “there is already a huge amount of work undertaken by the voluntary sector in Guernsey, and we’d like to encourage anyone who volunteers to take along one of their friends during Volunteers’ Week to see if they might be interested in helping”. The Association hopes that the Buddy Scheme will appeal to all types of voluntary organisation, including charities, sports clubs, and youth groups. Any organisation that relies on its members to volunteer their time should take advantage of Volunteers’ Week to encourage some new people along so that they can find out more about the sort of work that is carried out. Volunteers’ Week is an annual campaign that celebrates the fantastic contribution that millions of volunteers make right across the UK, and also inspire other to get involved. Malcolm Woodhams explained, “we hope that this Buddy Scheme will allow many new people to see the sort of work that is done by volunteers and, hopefully, some will choose to stay on. Most voluntary organisations could really make use of some extra helpers, and we’d like every charity to use this opportunity to persuade their volunteers to take part”. More information about Volunteers’ Week, and the Buddy Scheme, will be posted on the Association of Guernsey Charities website: www.charity.org.gg and we would like to hear from charities that take part. Charities and volunteers are encouraged to leave a comment, or share ideas, on the Association’s Facebook page www.facebook.com/guernseycharities
