Charities encouraged to apply for grants from Christmas Lottery

The Association of Guernsey Charities has announced details of the organisations that will benefit from the 2013 Channel Islands Christmas Lottery. Each year, the proceeds from tickets sold in Guernsey are given to the Association to be distributed to local good causes.

The 2013 lottery saw the introduction of new 2 double chance tickets, and was the most successful in its history, breaking all previous records with the first prize climbing to over 1,000,000.

The Association of Guernsey Charities invited charities to apply for a share of the 208,886 that was raised by tickets sold in Guernsey, and received requests from 53 charities, asking for more than 576,000.

The Association likes to support a wide variety of projects, that will help people throughout the Bailiwick.  On behalf of the charities receiving grants, the Association would like to thank everyone who supported the 2013 Christmas draw, as well as all the shops, agents, and outlets that enthusiastically sold the tickets.

The Christmas Lottery has been used to help local charities since 1986. Since then, nearly 3 million pounds has been raised for organisations in Guernsey.

The 2013 draw will help 31 charities, with grants ranging from 350 up to 29,500.   <Read full story>
