Guernsey Parent Support Group for Children with Developmental Disabilities

Description Aims and Objectives

The group offers help to local families with dependants who have special needs and will:

  • Endeavour to offer early support to those parents who would like contact with other parents (i.e. soon after diagnosis is made or illness is suspected by parent or professional).

  • Support parents or carers at any time.

  • Foster mutual help and co-operative friendship between parents, guardians, relatives and all entrusted with the care of dependants with mental or physical disabilities or with special needs.

  • Enhance the parent/professional relationship.

  • Facilitate social meetings and other activities for the children and their families throughout the year.

 

Organisation and Management

Affiliated to Contact a Family, a National charity, the aims of which are to help families who have children with different disabilities and special needs. There is a local management committee.

 

Finance

From donations, annual subscriptions and fund-raising activities. Apart from an affiliation fee to Contact a Family, all money raised is used in Guernsey.
