Sarnia Housing Association LimitedMember Number: 064Description Aims and Objectives The only housing association in Guernsey, founded in 1968 (under the umbrella of the Guernsey Council of Churches), to provide temporary housing for the homeless, and permanent accommodation for the elderly, with the object of keeping families together by preventing the children having to be put into care, and helping the Association's tenants with their difficulties. The Association is continually dealing with young families, separated men and women with children, unmarried mothers and the elderly, all in desperate circumstances. The Association has five houses with twenty-three units of accommodation which is occupied as temporary housing by the young (usually for about nine months), and as permanent housing by the elderly. There is a permanent waiting list for the accommodation.
Organisation and Management By a patron (The Bailiff), Chairman, and committee of twelve members (all voluntary) and three resident wardens.
Finance From the modest rents and public donations, all of which are entirely spent in Guernsey.
