Women’s Royal Voluntary Service (WRVS)

Member Number:   057

Description Aims and Objectives

In line with the policy of WRVS National, the Guernsey branch is committed to being the premier provider of support and assistance to the community wherever the need arises. This is primarily through the Day Centre at Jubilee Day Centre and The Russels, Parish Social Clubs for retired people, distribution of Meals on Wheels, Trolley Shops in residential homes and a blood donor calling service at the PEH.

The WRVS also runs an Emergency Team, which works alongside the Islands emergency services providing refreshments and general assistance. The WRVS is a company limited by guarantee.

Organisation and Management

The Bailiwick Organiser is appointed by the Board of Directors and is responsible to them for the efficient running of the Guernsey service.

In addition there are six part-time paid members of staff; the Day Centre Organiser and her assistant are responsible for the running of the Jubilee Day Centre, and the Secretary is responsible for the office and accounting matters.

Team Leaders organise the various voluntary activities.

Finance

The WRVS receives a grant from the States Social Security Authority, which mainly meets the salaries of the part-time staff. Charges, donations and fundraising events hopefully meet other running costs.
