Grow Limited

Member Number:   052

Description Aims and Objectives

Grow (Guernsey’s Rural Occupation Workshop) is a limited company wholly owned by the Guernsey Society for People with Learning Disabilities. It provides a sheltered environmental workshop where handicapped people can undergo horticultural and related training with a view to being able to take their place in the community.

Organisation and Management

There is a board of directors, drawn from various interests on the Island, which meets monthly to formulate policy, review resources and monitor progress.

Finance

The company receives sponsorship for trainees by agreement with the Board of Health and Guernsey Social Security Authority that goes towards the wages bill for the Manager and assistants. Other funds have to be raised from the sale of produce, its garden maintenance service, and donations from the public.

  • Running costs: There is a sponsorship scheme in operation whereby the cost of growing or marketing a crop, or part of it, over a given period, is financed by supportive donors.

  • Repairs and renewals: Donations are always required to maintain the workplace in the most up-to-date state of excellence. These donations enable Grow Limited to keep abreast of modern techniques needed to maintain high standards in training methods and crop production.
