National Childbirth Trust - Guernsey BranchMember Number: 042Description Aims and Objectives Offers information and support in pregnancy, childbirth and early parenthood and aims to enable every parent to make informed choices. Regular activities include ante-natal classes, pregnancy and post-natal exercise classes, breast-feeding counselling, visiting schools to talk about birth and early parenthood, post-natal support, loaning Egnell electric breast pumps, producing a quarterly magazine “In Touch”, keeping a special experiences register of people who may be contacted for support in particular circumstances, funding training for teachers and councillors, and a parent, baby and toddler weekly coffee morning.
Organisation and Management Founded in 1956, the National Childbirth Trust is now the foremost charity in this area with over 370 branches and groups around Great Britain. The local branch is managed by an elected committee, together with trained members of the trust.
Finance Mainly by fund-raising events, but also by antenatal class fees and donations. Part of the annual subscription goes to headquarters, with most of the remainder directed towards the training of local ante-natal teachers and breast-feeding counsellors.
