Guernsey Blind AssociationMember Number: 038Description Aims and Objectives Firstly, to care for the welfare and needs of all blind and partially sighted in the Bailiwick, supporting them and their families as and when needed. Visiting to give practical help and encouragement to live as full and independent life as their visual handicap will allow. Secondly, to help in the prevention of blindness by providing a Community Eye Care service for those with limited means, assisting with the cost of eye examinations, spectacles and operations. Opening hours are Monday to Friday from 9.15am to 11.15am, or at other times by prior arrangement.
Organisation and Management By a Committee of Trustees meeting alternate months. Each Committee member undertakes a particular section of work to help towards providing a smooth running service to the Bailiwick of Guernsey. A full time secretary is employed in the office together with an advisor who visits the visually impaired to assess their needs and help them to improve their quality of life. The Guernsey Blind Association stocks many types of low visual aids for people to purchase with the assistance of their office staff who are their to give help, advice and give support. A team of volunteers run a weekly Talking Newspaper (Guernsey Audio News), and a co-ordinator with four technicians maintain the Talking Book machines.
Finance By donations, bequests, fund-raising, and member subscriptions. All money raised is used for the residents of the Bailiwick.
