Deadline for charities to apply for lottery funding
(15 January 2009)

Local charities are reminded that applications for a share of the Christmas Lottery proceeds need to be made by the end of this month.

The 2008 Christmas Lottery was the most successful in its 30-year history, with the jackpot reaching £553,000. Every year the proceeds of the Christmas draw are given to charities to enable them to undertake projects. Last year 25 charities in Guernsey benefited from the 2007 Christmas Lottery when they received a share of the £145,000 raised. This was the largest sum ever given to local good causes. The amount raised from the 2008 Lottery is currently being calculated, but the Association is keen to thank everyone for continuing to show such great support for the traditional Christmas draw.

Charitable organisations, which must be a member of the Association of Guernsey Charities in order to receive money from the lottery, can apply for a grant towards any project that they are undertaking in Guernsey during 2009. Any charity wishing to apply for a share of the funds will need to complete a Grant Application Form and return this to the Association with any supporting documents, and a full set of annual accounts.

The application form is available on the Association of Guernsey Charities website: www.charity.org.gg. Applications must be returned to the Association no later than Saturday 31 January.
