Christmas Charity Jackpot The jackpot for the 2007 Christmas lottery is a staggering £505,000 - the highest ever on the Channel Island Lottery. The popularity of the local lottery is good news for Channel Island charities as they will receive the proceeds from the draw. In Guernsey, the money is given to the Association of Guernsey Charities to distribute. Details on how charities can apply are available by clicking the link on the right had side of this page. The Association is keen that as many organisations as possible should submit an application if they plan to undertake a project within the island in 2008. Last years draw raised over £131,000, which was distributed amongst 23 organisations. The money was used to help several of the large organisations, as well as many of the smaller charities which provide facilities and services that benefit the island. Since the Channel Island Lottery started giving the proceeds of the Christmas draw to charity in 1986, over £1.6 million has been given to local good causes. Ticket sales dropped in the mid 1990’s, but over the past five years, there has been a major increase in the quantity of tickets sold, and therefore the amount of money given to the charities.
