Support our local lottery and help local charities
(26 November 2007)

With less than one month to the 2007 Christmas Lottery draw, The Association of Guernsey Charities is urging islanders to show their support.

Every year the proceeds of the Christmas draw are given to local charities to enable them to undertake projects in the island. Last years draw raised over £131,000, which was distributed amongst 23 organisations.

Money from the bumper Christmas draw is used to help several of the large organisations, as well as many of the smaller charities that provide facilities and services that benefit the island.

Since the Channel Island Lottery started giving the proceeds of the Christmas draw to charity in 1986, over £1.6 million has been given to local good causes. Ticket sales dropped in the mid 1990’s, but over the past five years, there has been a major increase in the quantity of tickets sold, and therefore the amount of money given to the charities.

Any organisation wishing to apply for a share of the proceeds has until the end of January to submit an application to the Association of Guernsey Charities. Details are available on the website: www.charity.org.gg

This year’s Christmas Draw will be on Tuesday 18 December, but anyone wanting tickets is advised not to leave it too late, as tickets usually sell out long before the draw.
