Launch of new website for
charities in Guernsey
(August 2006)
The Association of Guernsey
Charities has launched a new website for local charities and voluntary
groups. The site is the culmination of many months of planning,
developing, and producing details about local organisations.
Any charitable
organisation based in the Bailiwick of Guernsey can join the Association
of Guernsey Charities - there are currently 230 members. The website,
which has been produced voluntarily and completely free of charge,
provides details of each organisation (together with a link to their
website where applicable).
The Association has asked
each local charity to nominate a contact name, telephone number and (if
available) email address so that anyone wishing to find out further
information can directly contact the charity concerned. There are also
links from the growing number of local organisations that are able to
accept donations over the internet. This facility, which is provided
free of charge by Submarine Ltd, allows anyone to make a donation to a
local charity quickly, safely and securely, using a credit or debit
card.
The Association of
Guernsey Charities has operated a website since June 2000. The original
website was a replacement for the Directory of Charitable Organisations
that had been published by the Association since it started in 1984.
Having undertaken a
review of the Association’s original website it was decided to build a
brand new site, with an entirely new section of guides and information
sheets for charities, or for those considering setting up a charity.
There are several guides currently available, including topics such as
preparing charitable accounts, starting a charity, and guidance to best
charitable practice. There are already plans to add further guides that
may be useful to local organisations. Besides being accessible on the
website, each guide is available to download (e.g. for printing) in
either Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF format.
The Association aims to
promote their new website as widely as possible so that it is recognised
as the primary place to find information about charities, or to locate
local groups that may be able to help with a particular matter – for
example, providing support or assistance for a specific medical
condition.
The Website also contains
information about The Association, including details of meetings, and
information on how charities can join. The website address is:
