Description Aims and Objectives
Healing Music Trust is a charity whose aims are to bring therapeutic experiences of live music to homes, hospitals and special needs schools throughout the Bailiwick of Guernsey. It provides concerts of live music, usually lasting one hour for the benefit of patients, residents, special needs pupils and their carers, given by musicians selected not only for their professional skills but also for their ability to connect and bring special moments to their audiences. They try to reach an audience otherwise confined or restricted from benefiting from what live music can do for the soul, for behaviour and one’s state of mind.
The Healing Music Trust try to reach as wide an audience as possible including:
- Children with learning difficulties or other physical disability
- Patients with life limiting conditions such as Alzheimer’s, dementia or stroke
- Older people in residential care
- Patients with lifelong mental or learning disabilities
- Hospital patients
- Patients in palliative care or in hospice
Concerts are carefully tailored to each audience so as to give the maximum fun and enjoyment for all. Musicians normally cater for a wide variety of tastes including: classical, jazz, folk, opera, popular post 50s rock, musicals, film music and light opera. Most of the musicians cater for requests and this is something which often makes a person's day.
One of the nicest aspects of the Healing Music musicians is their willingness to become involved with the patients. They don’t simply ‘perform’. They move around the room and sing or play directly to one individual, encouraging a smile or some sort of participation.'
The Healing Music Trust aims to give six tours each year. Each tour reaches an estimated 8-900 people.
