Description Aims and Objectives

Bailiwick of Guernsey Victim Support and Witness Service LBG is a registered Charity first set up in Guernsey in 1998.

They provide a free, confidential service to victims and witnesses of any crime and their family and friends, regardless of when the crime occurred and whether or not it was reported.

The specially trained volunteers provide emotional support, practical help and information.

Victim Support also runs the Witness Service from a self contained Witness Suite within the new court building where volunteers support victims, witnesses, their family and friends before, during and after giving evidence in Court.  They also offer pre trial visits to the courtroom
in order to explain court procedure and to allay any fears witnesses may have about giving evidence.

Organisation and Management

The Service has a local management committee and the everyday running of the service is undertaken by a manager and 2 other part time members of staff plus 18 invaluable volunteers.

An initial grant was provided by the Lloyds TSB Foundation to start the scheme, thereafter through voluntary contributions and a fixed annual grant from the Home Department from 2004.  More recently G4S provided sponsorship for 3 years and The Guernsey Community Foundation for 1 year enabling the service to employ its 2 part time members of staff.
