About the playground

Do you remember playing on a makeshift swing, balancing on stepping stones etc? Nowadays health and safety is paramount but this comes at a cost. Equipment needs to be maintained to a high standard with regular inspections. Most people don't realise that the playground is actually a separate charity and it's easy to take for granted that somebody will take care of the costs of this maintenance work. The WPYCCT covers every day costs such as refuse disposal and the provision of toilet facilities (nothing is free these days) but the Styx Playground charity collects funds to repair and replace the equipment as necessary. Arrangements have been made to refurbish our ever popular Sputnik Roundabout this summer which is going to cost close to £1000 so any donations will be gratefully received.

Coffee Shop volunteers

In the past, volunteers ran a weekly 'coffee shop' which provided a constant, if small, income towards upkeep of the playground. Can you help to get this running again? The playground is used daily, not just by the general public but also schools/playgroups etc. Call 267319 if you can help
